You're kinda right Kathy, I personally don't care to copy something exactly but admire the carvers that can. I just go with the flow, whatever the wood will let me do and this also lets me get away with mistakes. Doris is completely right saying that reference's are a great aide. We all strive to get better with each carving. I've been asked several times to carve into existing structure (mantels, staircase posts, etc) but always decline. I carve for the FUN of it, anything else would take that away, in my opinion. Can't wait to see your Indian, I'm actually working on one myself, entirely from my imagination.

pretty good, ... I've seen quite a few photos (I have about 300 of them) of natives that have the bandanas under their hair... I think he'll look fantastic when you are done

Hi Marianne, thank you so much so some Indians actually do wear the bandanas under their hair. Great news!

UPDATE 071109

Took the 'Breed' to carving club today and did some finishing carving on him.
Need to even up the chin crease to match the crease on the right (viewers).

After that I'll start woodburning tomorrow morning while it's still fairly cool. I plan to wood burn his hair and I may give him blue or hazel eyes. After I woodburn then I'll add a coat of Danish Oil.

Still have a ways to go and I have already started another carving. Going to give the Apache a go with the bandana on the outside of the hair this time.
Will up date soon,
Kathy
