Default WIP Indian

Hi All, and you thought I'd given up Basswood for Bark--tee hee fooled ya.
Been working on this project off and on for a little while. Thought I'd share a little WIP with ya.
You know how things are when you have an idea in mind on how you want your carving to look. Well, I should have grabbed some reference photo's on how bandana's are tied around a head. I had already carved in some deep furrows where the bandana meets the hair line on each side. The bandana would have two deep creases on each side and wouldn't look right. Sooooo the hair will just have to stay on the outside rather on the inside. I'll be more careful and check references closer next time. Soooooo I'll just have to make this one work.
As always appreciate your comments,
Kathy

Kathy, I didn't see your direction in the first photo, but I definately did in the second one.

I like him,in spite of your bandana mishap. Great save.

How big is he?

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

Wanda, Sharon, Ron T, Feb

The roughout stage is what I call the ugly stage and sometimes hard to determine how it will all turn out...somehow it does thank goodness.
Thank you all, for posting and for your nice comments. I'll have another update soon.
Kathy

hi kathy,,, i see you feel now more confident with carving mouths :-)... i donīt see what you mean with the bandana would make to deep creases on the sides...as you have it now on the front, the creases donīt look deep at all, and in my opinion, this way would not disturb on the side view...but, maybe you wanted go with a strictly geometric stylized outline ? is that the reason why you say they disturb,,,just curious for your reasoning...

"The ugly stage". I know exactly what you mean Kathy, looking at a piece during that stage is sometimes very disappointing and then all of a sudden you take off more wood and there it is, not so ugly anymore. Looks like a good start and I'm glad you're doing it from your imagination instead of looking at a reference pic, originality.
