Started this guy a couple of weeks ago and hope to finish him up this weekend. The bust on the right side is the clay and the wood carving is on the right. He is about 8 inches tall and carved from Basswood from Heinecke Wood. View him with a critical eye and comments are welcomed. |

Hi Steve, first of all your Indian clay model looks just great. Your wooden WIP Indian is coming along great and your carving appears very close to your clay model. Can we see the back on the next update? After your carved Indian is complete, then what do you do with your clay model? Cast, bronze? Looking forward to following along with this one! Kathy

Kathy, thanks. I reuse the clay. Once in awhile I take a mold and do an epoxy casting. But seldom do I finish the clay to the point of being finished enough to do a cast. I don't try to follow the clay real close. It is just to work out where things go. How the nose/eyes/ all of the stuff fits together. I'll show the back in the next pictures I post. |

Making a little progress. Here is the photo showing the back of the head that I promised Kathy, and one profile shot. Shouldn't be much longer until finished. Kinda depends on the amount of yard work needing done. |

Nice work there Steve! You know I think I might have learned something here? Maybe I should get some clay and work things out before I start. I sometimes find myself waundering aimlessly. |

Go to the kids department and get some clay. Plasticine clay. Just like kids use. Only difference is that I get it in a case of 50 lbs. (reuseable and lasts forever) You can get it also in one pound boxes. Home Page or The Compleat Sculptor, Inc. (The Compleat Sculptor - Klean Klay ) Kleanklay.com might be able to tell you a local supplier. or just google for kleanKlay. If you want to take a mold from the clay sculpt then klean Klay is best. It is "non-sulfur" and that's important if you want to do a mold. Good Luck |
