| | WIP Gargoyle Well I started working on an ambitious project...well for me anyway...a gargoyle. You'll see from the pics that I'm taking some suggestions from other carvers here on the site and working with a plastasene model. I didn't spend a lot of time with the clay, just wanted the basic shape. I started to remove some wood from the four pieces of laminated blocks of basswood. What you see are two shots taken from the front and profile. There is a drawing from the back view and the other side. I made this difficult by turning the head to the side and raising one shoulder a bit to give a different look. I expect this will take me a while so I'll try to post at least once a week on the progress. This is the first time for me carving in the round so it should be an interesting journey.

| | Re: WIP Gargoyle Hi Patrick, thank you, for sharing your 'Gargoyle' WIP with us. Boy this looks like a hard one, well for me anyway. LOL As a young child I lived in a town in Texas that had Gargoyle's on the courthouse building. They used to scare the heck out of me, I didn't want to go anywhere near that building. Now, as a grown up I'd like to see that courthouse building again.
I'll be following along with all the other folks as you progress.

| | Re: WIP Gargoyle Wow Patrick that is going to be one awsome carving and knowing your talent I can already see the finished product. Stepping out of our comfort zones is the hardest thing to do I admire you for not only stepping out but to proceed with such a difficult project. I like others will be watching to see the progress. Good luck my friend

| | Re: WIP Gargoyle Congratuations Patrick, on taking on such a giant leap from your comfort zone. This exercise will be great for you and by the look of your clay model, you'll do fine with the wooden one. It is a big piece, and I am looking forward to see the progress on it. I have every faith that you'll "ace" this one!
