| | Winging it! Got home from work late and didn't feel like starting a new santa carving tonight and just wanted to carve something different. Just grabbed my bench knife, a piece of wood, and a pencil. Donned my glove at about 7:30 pm and just started drawing and carving. Started out practicing a wood spirit face and ended up with the Spirit of Christmas Tree. Not crazy about the lay of the boughs near the top and found myself doing duck feather shapes but it didn't turn out bad for winging it. Think I will do another with some planning this time.

| | Re: Winging it! I like the idea Goody and your wood spirit seems to merge right into the tree. I'll be using it as a reference photo for a carving once I get into the Christmas spirit.

Awesome! I think you should add it to your Santa line. It is one of the nicest carved trees I have ever seen. Paint it as a Christmas tree and call it Christmas Spirit .

| | Re: Winging it! I think it is a great winging it carving! much better than mine. I did mine the other night while my wife was cutting my son's hair. I picked up a scrap of wood cut from Susan Irish' Oakman tutorial. Yours could definately be used as a Christmas decoration, mine on the otherhand was great to practice using a knife. I really enjoy winging it as I get to practice with my tools and also you never know what might be hiding in the scrap of wood you pick up. sorry for the quality but my main camera is on the blink, this is one of my kids mini camera's and doesnt take clear pictures. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
