Doug,
I put the measurement on the block in the photo. if you can print the block to match the size indiacated use a scrollsaw and make you some.
ill have to make at least 5 of the other charters and if anybodys interested i can post patterns for them too,
the pattern was found on a coloring page of a pbs television station in colorado. from a google results search on bob the builder.
would like to make all the trucks and front end loader too bit the tires would be too much fun .....

he really needed to be cut out of thicker stock. or a half inch of material added for his face and back of head,
as the charters all have lolly pop round heads...

but that boy has tried to tell me he wanted bob every day...

tell you what was fun, i kept him this afternoon, and he wanted so bad to help me paint, he was dipping his index finger in the paint and trying to help...
i painted it with acrilic wash, and it may never dry from me having to take it back to the sink and soaking it after he rubbed black paint down the fromt 2 times...
but he knows how to paint now.. 2 years old going on 18...

I check this thread every day to see what you guys are working on, I love it. grin

This is my red-breasted merganser drake similar to the 1910 merganser pictured below by Gus Wilson, the primary reference for the wing pattern
and Shaggy crest on back of head was from the live bird pictured.

Wow
Thomp, nothing like professional help ! What a great memory you will have ! And a nice carving he will have as well to light his memory for many years to come.

Phaeton,
Nice work, I know almost nothing about decoy's , but you know I do know what I like and I like it.

Thomp, that Bob the Builder came out WAY nice! sounds like you are having a ball with that young Grand Son! Maybe it's time to get him a set of those finger paints!

And Phaeton, Ilike your merganser, too! They are one of the more interesting birds around! the sawbills are really clowns of the water birds.

Thomp,
What a great project with the grandson. Love the way it's turning out. Nice story to go with it. You may have to tell it to him again in front of his first girlfriend someday.

Phaeton, I'm with Ash, and know nothing about decoys, but that one is beautiful. I like seeing the photo of the real bird with it too. I always learn something new here.

I really like your Decoy, have always wanted to try doing that but, then I would have to paint and thats not going to happen, so I will just have to admire other peoples work.

This was a fun project, Ash, Al, Thor and Bill thank you all for the complements.

The thing I like the most about folk art carving is that there are no rules or guidelines to follow, you can be creative with the carving and the paint.
