I just finished this 12" high stylized ballerina for my Grand Daughter's 10th birthday. I had never carved anything like this before and wanted to see if I could do it. It is carved from Sugar Pine and stained with a maple stain. It is pinned on a Walnut base with a 3/32 brass pin.

Wow, it has taken me a while to get through this thread, but it sure was worth it! What an amazing variety of carvings, beautiful work everyone!!

I'm working on a mountain man in cottonwood bark right now. I'll have to post a picture later, right now I have to get off this computer and get busy! Thanks everyone for sharing, what impressive work you all are doing! Deborah

Oops, I'm a bit behind on this thread.

Dick, I really love how you have used the texture in the background to 'push' the ribbon and flowers forward. Very nice touch to your double heart frame!

Doug? Is she an original design??? You have captured a fantastic flowing line of movement from her toe to the tip of her fingers. Just beautiful! The angles between her shoulders and her hips is dead on right.

Ash ... I'm holding my breath to see this one finished. I have d one a few wrapped snake sticks but never three braided snakes wrapped. More than I think I would tackle. The depth in the brdige of the wood spirits nose is perfect!
