Marci, Wow you've been busy too. Your bark carvings are really nice, and I won't forget the herd of Santas - they're very nice also. Tom H

Marci, You are coming into your own style of carving. The cottonwood bark carvings and the painted Santa's are excellent.
, Do you spray all of the Bark with poly or just the carved areas.
I have done both ways and people seem to like both ways.

Dylan. Great scroll name sign. Like the way the wood grain shows through.

Goody, What can I say, Excellent sign and the subject matter dear to my own Heart.
Excellent painting by Anna as usual.

Everyone else, Great job.

Kenny, I have been just covering the carved areas with poly. I will need to do something else with the rest of the bark since I was asked if they could hang outside.

At first I thought.. well hey..that bark has been 'outside' for over 100 years...but they really wanted something to seal the whole thing.

I'm not sure wich method would work the best.. dunking or spraying. Any advise?

Personally, I would not hang bark carvings outside. Yes they were outside to begin with but after takeing away some of the outer bark, That leaves it acceptable to weathering.
Dunk or spray. Both would work, but if they are to be displayed outside, a couple of more coats would help protect the piece. Plus, I believe you would have to recoat it every so often. Never have had a bark carving displayed outside. That is a new one that I need to do more research on.

Well things see to be moving along now,

Most of the rough-our work is completed and befor I finish the frame , I am advanceing to doing the portrait . So finished recessing the area for the portrait it is recessed at 5/8 of an inch from the upper portion of the frame , and the design has been located . All the work has been done without power using a hand plane and chisels.
