Great job on the carving and what scaling you have done.
Thomp, That is a great idea on a basket of the state and then filling it with stuff associated with the state.
Hmm, Isn't it about time you taught her to run the scroll and cutoff saws. Would give you a break eh?

| | Re: WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... Thomas, that sure is a neat idea with the basket full of stat related items, and quite thoughtful, too!
As far as the tips for burning scales go, I make my own from brass rod and fit them to the "hobby type" woodburning pens, not the pro style. I turn them on a small Unimat lathe. I have four different sizes...had five but don't know where one went.
I know you can buy scaling tips and pens for the Optima burners and most other kinds, too. You can also buy the .018 nichrome wire and make your own, but I've never tried those. this cheapo works pretty well for me.
It's just tedious, but I don't think it is as close work as burning feathers and quills on birds. Those guys and gals that do that are way beyond my hopes!

I was going to say thats worse than burning feathers on a compition decoy. But you said it first.
I am always working on Santas and Anna Just finished a Sign for a guy that makes Muzzleloaders. Its Leaving for Indiana in the morning. Looks massive and heavy but we used paulownia which is very light.
Goody & Anna

Nah, I think the feathers are way more precise than scales.
Is that right? You have a Santa Anna?????

| | Re: WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... I finally got the scroll finished. It seemed to take forever for the polyurethatne to dry. I'd like to thank everyone that commented on it in the last thread.

| | Re: WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... I finally finished the small santa's I've been working on. The tallest are four inches and the smaller are three inches tall.
I've also been working on cotton wood bark. I got a huge chunk off my mothers tree thats dying at her place.
