| | WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... Ok Susan,
You asked me or AL to do this , so come show us what your doing , works in progress, just finishing , just starting what ever your working on!
I have three projects in motion right now. Another tree project almost planned out, this will be a locust tree, which I hope to start by Wed.
A portrait carving which is almost designed and for a break Goody's roughout .
Which has become my breaktime carving .

| | Re: WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... Here's the latest on the bass carving. There is about 5 hours of work on the scaling, at this point. Had to take a break for a couple days but might get back at it later today. I like the new oval eye style...one is temporarily in place just for show.

Ash | yes ashbys, its the right end of a basket my wives design, lots of local folks my wife knows moved out of state and every year she sends them a taste of home to keep them in touch with what their missing she says, look on my woodcraft blog link below for more pics...
but between the 2 ends there are 12" 3/4"x1/4" slats glued stapled between the ends with a dowell stick handle drilled into the top...
I love to make them out of bald cypress planks from barns and such, fill them with spanish moss, plastic aligators crawfish, martygras beeds, and such, but this gal wanted just new pine wood baskets.
this picture dosent show completed just the cut out end piece the slats are behind stacked to the left in this photo.
The gal sells her beans & rice, gumbo seasonings in a jar, pepper jelly some cajum recipee books and stuffs the baskets full of state made items.. to the tourists

| | Re: WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... Al,
i like the fish,,,
i think one day to carve a bull brim, chinkiq pen or something like that but to suspend the carving and all the support plants would get me nutty wondering if i ever got done.
did you use a fish scale tip on your burner or a plain tip? the scale shapes seam to be quite uniform in size is whi i ask..
i bought the optma1 with one tip and am trying to decide which other tips i will need.
good job |

| | Re: WhaCha Carving Week of Monday 6/5 .... we do a few of them every year, its just enough that our friends know we remember them but not too expencive,
the wife is in her empty nest phase, im loving it but she is feeling the lack of the pitter patter.. i need to find her a sparing partner,, becuse i like the quiet and the lack of kaos that running a house full of kids brings...
but there are lots of ideas for the baskets,, just wish it didnt involve all the scroll, table raidail and cutoff saws or i would turn her loose on them by herself.... shes quick on the draw with that glue gun though.........
