| | Re: WhaCha Carvin 05/29 Monday After finishing the wind spirit wind chime I realized that all of my wood spirit faces are coming out the same ... So, for a change of pace I got a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 12" block and did some practice faces. This is a very quick and dirty carving just to refresh myself on different expressions. When I get the chance I want to go back and work each face carefully for a new carving.

| | Re: WhaCha Carvin 05/29 Monday Okay, you asked for it. Here are the things on our painting table. A group of Cypress knee Santas and a dozen Uncle Sam tree ornaments, all going to the gift shop at Berea, Ky.
The Sams still have to be put together after they are painted. |

| | Re: WhaCha Carvin 05/29 Monday Susan, love the faces. New expressions for sure.
Doug, the Uncle Sams and Santas are quite a production. Great to have a place to sell them. Love your Santas.
Another relief that I have just started working on.
12" X 36" X 1" basswood.
The theme is "Maiden".
It's hard to see, but the young maiden is just blissed out in a garden atmosphere with no worries, and there is a dragon just underneath the surface that she doesn't even know about.
I've also designed "Mother", and "Crone" for this to be a three part series.
Mother has a woman with a two handed long sword doing battle with the dragon while her two children hide behind her.
Crone will have the old woman sitting calmly with death (a skeleton in robes) with the dragon sleeping at her feet.
Long way to go on this, but I like to photograph them as I go, because they go through such weird and hopeless stages.

| | Re: WhaCha Carvin 05/29 Monday Doug !!!! DOUG! What a fantastic idea to use the styrofoam for a painting-glueing-working support. That idea, that one photo, was well worth the time to start this new thread.
The carving work is great, especially the cypress santas but the styrofoam is an idea I am going to put to use immediately.
Thor ... great start, I will be watching. Is this trio to be a hinged plaque? I ask because it sure looks like a great door front for a wall cabinet with it's height and weight.
OK ... Al and Ash ... pass the buck but next week one of you can start the new thread.

| | Re: WhaCha Carvin 05/29 Monday Well, maybe, but I better get off my dead **s and get carving! I did order out the eyes for that bass last night and several more sets for a muskie, a crappie, a couple trout and another bass.
Those new posts are GREAT!
Susan, It's really nice to see "new faces"! I always thought about doing either a WS or just a log with the faces of the four winds, but I'm afraid each try ended dismally, as my drawing ability is ppttthhhht! Sure wish i could do faces......oh, well....
Thor, that panel is already looking good...can't wait to se the finished one. Your sign was impressive!
Good bunch of carvings, there, Doug. Ash is right, you sure can turn them out, and well done, too!
*******ENVY, here********

| | Re: WhaCha Carvin 05/29 Monday Working on Celtic Knots and some letters for a sign. The wood is Butternut. The tray is so I can carve and enjoy the sun, while the Mrs. gardens and I keep her company!
Notice, I'm actually using a glove now!
