| | A weeks work...WIP I know it may not look like much, but here is a weeks worth of progress on the ship model. The bow detail is completed (Walnut, Boxwood, Basswood), main rail installed (Mahogany) and the stern is planked (Basswood) and the great cabin windows installed (Mahogany). Now the captain will have the best view on the ship!

Wow! Very nice! There must be a job that just puts Guys like you, with your talent for detail, to work building prototypes of outrageous things. Maybe there's so few of "you" that they haven't created such a job. Beautiful workmanship!

Ash....she's a three masted ship, period 1851. One of those big packet ships that were used in the Australia trade from Britain, just prior to the clipper era. You can see by her hull shape, deep, wall sided and has a sharp entry (bow) and exit (stern) that she was built to carry a lot of cargo very quickly. She (and her sister) were considered the fastest ship in the world at one point. Not bad for a ship built in the "colonies"!

| | Re: A weeks work...WIP Bob, very nice. Having done some scratch building in model railroading in the past, I can really appreciate the quality of your work. The windows look great. Getting those square and true at that size can be a job. Looking forward to your progress on this project.By George |

| | Re: A weeks work...WIP You are my role model when it comes to detail! Did I hear you say that you used boxwood in the bow? Boxwood is the biggest evergreen industry here in the mountains of my rural North Carolina community. Everybody (and I do mean everybody) has boxwood growing in their yards, fields, or their relatives yards! I suppose that it must be the same boxwood you use but I don't plan to cut such a tree anytime soon since that is grounds for getting shot 'round these parts.
No ship has ever fascinated me more that Jules Verne's Nautilus in "20 Thousand Leagues Under The Sea". Or would that be a submarine?
Thanks for the WIP!!! |
