Thanks for the finishing tips Don. I'll give your methods a try. And also, thanks for the kind words of encouragement Vicki, Jim, Cliff, Ash, bart, Robert, and Bob T. I know these carvings are rough, and need to be cleaner and crisper. Maybe if I do several hundred they will begin to be better.

Hey Tom, what do you call those little pins that you glue onto an ornament so you can attach it to a dress or whatever, and where do ya get them?

Excellent carvings, Tom!

Tucker: They're called Pin Bars and are available at Michaels Craft Stores here in the US - most craft stores should carry them. Here's a couple photos:
