Default Walnut coat rack

This is a coat rack, umbrella holder we have made for a customer. She wanted the bear with its arm around the tree, and baby up in the branches. Its still a work in progress because we have yet to add the facial features and steel wool the final project. So far it has just been chainsaw carved, sanded ( many diffrent sanders) and chisel work completed. My camera batteries died as I was taking the final photos, but you can see how its coming along anyway...Just thought we would shar this neat idea a lady had that we made happen for her.

Beautiful job and what a great idea! It's amazing how the finish really brought out the woods color. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

That's really neat. It reminds me of antique ones I've seen on Antiques Road Show on PBS. It's just as nice as them.

We will make sure to post follow up and finished pictures with all the great compliments we have received that sure makes up for all that arm pump hard work we put into this idea.

Today We hope to have the faces completed and the finishing buffing work done. Being here and reading/seeing so many talented artist we have many more great ideas and as well as finishing ideas they we never would of had by ourselves so to be honest this site and the great talent being shared here is one big driving point for us. Having read through MANY threads we can only say that much of what we do and will be doing is not with out help from the members here so we put this up to do our part and share our ideas.

This is such a great site...it covers everything we have looked for!

I don't do much if any chisel work besides clean up of my bigger items...however after joining this site I was inspired to try. I grabbed a scrap ( I have loads of scraps) of the Black walnut from the coat rack and started to wittle a bit. I can really see the wittling as being a fun thing to do when I am done working for the day or on a rainy day.

This is also a WIP because I am not done yet but wanted to share this one as well because it is my very first try at chiseling.

From this point on I will no longer look at scraps as fire wood, even though I have a 6 X 12 foot trailer Full of hardwood scraps.

I still burn my pine in a 55 gallon drum though because in a years time I would have a mountain a mile high....lol
