| | Re: Update on Greenman in Butternut Now that all the extra wood is gone....it will go faster (hopefully ) That half moon cut out eye really works with this piece. What did you use and how did you get it soooo smooth? |

| | Re: Update on Greenman in Butternut Hello and thanks for the comments. Dan, the wood is Butternut. Doris, by the way I love the piece you are doing. I don't know if you would call my work organized. I get tired of roughing out and want to see what the details look like, so sometimes I carve them as I go. Joy, It's not going to go faster, to many grain changes, and I get all anal about details on a piece like this. As far as the eye and smoothing, I use a skew alot to smooth my carvings where I can. I love a skew to round things off.
Thanks again.

| | Re: Update on Greenman in Butternut Nice work Gary. Take your time and enjoy it. I have some pieces of butternut here--I just haven't gotten around to carving them yet.
I use a skew to finish up my work, too. It's easy and it's versatile. I also use a #2 1/2 I made--a real shallow gouge which is almost flat like a #1 chisel with a slight curvature--which is great for smooting out the gouge marks.
Look forward to seeing the final result! |
