Colin,
Nice work on the benches.
I hope your cougar goes good at the school. Maybe we will see some pics of it as well.

Bob

Wow Colin - LOVE your spirits. As others have said - really neat idea your client has for surrounding his fire pit with them.

I am just working on small stuff now (hiking sticks and bark carvings) but someday I'd love to try the BIG stuff. I've been enamoured of the idea of live tree carving ever since I saw your article in WCI a ways back. We have a big old Maple tree next to our house that has started to rot out on the inside and will have to be taken down sometime in the next 5 years or so. Already lost one huge branch that just nicked the corner of the house. Yikes!

Anyway - I hope to put a big ole woodspirit in it to advertise my carving "business" - assuming of course I actually get to a point where people will buy them instead of just look at them quizzically. That is also assuming that it hasn't rotted out too much in the trunk.

Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing the rest of your posts on this project.

Regards and admiration,
ChuckT

Well rained all day almost so carving was at a standstill for most of the day. It did clear up eventually late in the afternoon so I managed to get some detail into the second stump for the bench. I little different face from my normal decided to give him a handlebar moustache. If you are wondering why they dont have any eyes. It is the very last thing I do to my carvings I call it giving them life and sole. I have a busy day tomorrow so I dont think I will get much done on the benches. I volunteered to do a carving of the school mascot for my grandsons school so I am starting it tomorrow. It will be a project that the whole school can watch come to life. Talk about stepping out of my box I have never carved anything like a cougar in my life hope it turns out ok. It is going to be out of a huge white pine log but I will save that for another thread. Here is the other stump for you to see. If anyone wants more info on the Redmax I would be only too happy to provide it for you.
Colin

Understand not saying NO. Hard to do. Then the little bride volunteers me for building project for the church. Course no pay but then, I wouldn't charge the church anyway.

I do like your spirits and notice this last picture of the spirit is a little different. A good different but different in the facial expression and upsweep of the mustach.
Nice progress.
