| | Two Piece Cowboy Been busy about three months teaching leathercraft to a Royal Rangers Outpost at church, about 10 boys and 3 leaders. While very rewarding, my carving was to every day read this forum, one of my enjoyments. Having said this, if I enjoy the pictures so much of what you all are doing, I suppose I'll contribute a bit myself. I am putting up two pictures of the profile of the face because recently there was discussion of taking off the face and recarving. These two pictures are exactly what happened on this carving, having hurried putting on the facial fixures, the face was way out too far out in the profile, so I cut off his nose and carved the face back about 1/8 inch. There is enough room and needs to be done to take the face back again, I think the face extends too far now, but - I'm done with this one and already considering the next one. Having read discussion of different bass wood, Had I not had an AutoMach, I don't think I could have carved this block by hand, it was as hard as walnut. Those wondering how the recip carvers work, and being 65 now with some of those pains in the hands that come with it, even I was amazed at how easy the carver would take off slices of wood with so little effort, but don't expect to use them much in details, or I should say, I can't. If anyone is interested in carving one of these guys and I can answer any questions, I will sure try. This is #6 , 5 live with other people, this ones staying home. Special thanks to Lynn and Don the Wood be for letting those like myself learn so much from your carving abilities, by making available your blogs with tips to whet the desire and learn from. Thanks Earl
