Default Turkey Project WIP

I'm fairly new here, I've been viewing for a couple of weeks and thought I'd show one of my projects. This is the first of two (at least) turkey busts that I'm working on for a call display.

I'm fairly happy with it but there is so much I would like to be able to do...mainly feather detail. I'm afraid I've limited myself in the fact that the knife holding the turkey is all I use. Would love to learn how to use the vast array of carving tools out there...some day.

Anyway here it is, critics are always welcome.

Steve

Steve that is great and done with an exacto knife wow. Before all these tools were invented all people use were exacto knifes or box cutters. I think you have done a wonderful job.

FANTASTIC BIRD, wow, if you had a couple more tools, look out you'd be king of tje heap, very creative for sure. That would make one super cane topper.

Wow! Chalk another one up for the utility knife (box cutter) carvers. I never would have considered one of these a carving tool untill I've seen some of these carvings done by folks who use them. Nicely done turkey.

It just shows that it is not the tool that makes the artist. Great job!

Thanks, this is also one of the first times I've carved Holly, and it is the first time I've tried to put any detail in it. The stuff is wonderful, not to soft and holds the detail very nicely.

A cane topper...hmm. Now I'm gettin' some new ideas!!!

Steve,

Take a look at Lynn Doughtys site to see what that kind of blade can do for you. Very nice job on the turkey! http://www.outwestwoodcarving.blogspot.com/
