| | trying to keep up with you guys I look at this board everyday and wonder how you all get so much done! I carve alot and I can't come close to keeping up.
The last few days I had one of those periods where I "finished" some stuff.....but of course, I have a lot more going on.
The images are of some finished things that were out of my comfort zone for sure. I don't do Santas usually, but have a few finished. One turned out to be a mountain hippy, and Santa doesn't seem to think much of him in the photo.
The next two images are of another box with a thistle on it that I'm almost finished with that was inspired by Deborah Call's article in WCI. I will put a leather hinge with brass pins along one edge.
Then, the benefits of having carving buddies! Erno, A friend, and very talented carver who attends the Woodcarvers Gathering here at my place brought me this cut out he did for me in cherry. I let him borrow one of my books, Woodcarving in the Scandinavian Style by Harley Refsal, and he brought it back with a finished ale bowl he had made to show me, and a bonus bowl for me to carve. I've always wanted to carve one, and he's made it possible.

| | Re: trying to keep up with you guys Thor-you produce some neat &interesting pieces-as tom says this is not a race or competition.
I too wonder how some folks can produce so many nice carvings so quickly.

| | Re: trying to keep up with you guys Thor,
Really good work. I love the thistle box. And the Ale bowl will be a really impressive piece.
You said it is cut from cherry? If you have not cut cherry before, let me make a suggestion. Get a piece before you start carving this one and play with a few cuts. Cherry has a tendency to act rather odd when it comes to cutting.
But it will be wonderful when you finish.
And I agree , this is not a race, You produce art and art should never be rushed.

| | Re: trying to keep up with you guys Thor.....relax and enjoy the journey. It's not the destination that counts, it's how much you enjoy getting there.
I love the box and ale bowl.......are those dragons on each side or horses? I can't wait to see what you do with the bowlcarving. Should be an interesting piece.

| | Re: trying to keep up with you guys Thor....No racing man here....take your time, learn something from every carving you approach.....I'd love to have more time to carve, but still need a weekly paycheck too....so when I do carve, it heaven to be in the zone.
Great job on all those new pieces too. Bill |
