Started on a 24" Brookie this past week. I've always wanted to do one with the hook jaw. So far, I've got it rounded off with a few flat spots I need to give attention to. This picture shows progress after bandsawing and some hand gouging. I tried out one of those reciprocating handpieces for my wecheer. Boy does it take the wood off with ease. And fast too. Now it's smoothed nearly over the whole body. |

Very Nice! I would like to see more of this Trophy at the end of my line. How are going to insert the fins? Bill |

For the fins, I will cut slots about 1/4" deep where most of them go and epoxy them in. Then most likely fill in aroun them with quik wood. I may try to do most of the scaling prior to inserting the fins. Less chance of accidental breakage as I've broken two tail fins on two previous fish projects. Not sure how I'm going to scale yet. Burning takes a lot of time, but may be a better finished product. Gotta think about that one a little more. Bill |

Hi There, looks like you have a really good start and a nice pattern to work by. Will look forward to those updates. I've never carved a fish, but maybe one day I will. Kathy
