cant saw a single straight line, so you may laugh about that ;-) ... small mallet for me :-) will never win a mallet show , but works nice, and have still the option to improve more on handle if it seems favourable ... thanks mark :-)

Interesting concept with the mallet. I don't use hard woods (yet) so the only time I use a mallet is roughing out....where I'm whacking off large chips. It doesn't seem like I could whack it hard enough just using the flex of my fingers I would have to develop a new set of muscles! I'm kidding about the "whacking" but I am curious about the power derived from this stroke. Maybe finesse is more desirable??? I just don't know that much about mallet work.

My my Doris,,you didn't waste any time did you? LOL...

You've got a great start there. As you refine it,,don't forget the indentations just under the head as you sculpt the handle to fit your hand.

Joy,,I've used this mallet on everything from my smallest pieces to my full size statues (that's alot of roughing on those) every wood from bass to oak,,and it has worked just great.Of course there are times when using a very large chisel that more weight is needed ( chisels say,,1 1/2 inch) but for the majority of the time,,this is what's in my hand. Setting stop cuts,,relief cuts etc. it's very controllable. It might seem odd after using a traditional shaped mallet,,,but if it's shaped just right you are not even aware of it being in your hand, and requires so little thought and effort to use.Maybe too,,I've used this shape so long I just naturally fall into it. The second one I made,,though its the same exact shape,,has a different feel to it,,but works just as well.Guess I'm just too fussy,,,and such a simple thing.
