| | tree for Bear I finally have something new to post a picture of.
I carved this tree out of a piece of cypress. The Builder who built my house kept commenting on the one I have similar to it over my kitchen window, so I carved one for him as a thank you gift. His name is Bear.
I stippled some of the background just for a different look and put a water base sanding sealer on it.

| | Re: tree for Bear Hi Thor,
What a great carving. The design is simple but the execution makes it so elegant and the stipling makes the tree come alive. |

| | Re: tree for Bear Thanks Ron T. The stippling sped it up and I do think it compliments the different layers of wood.
Kenny, I don't know where Bear will put it, and the one he admired was natural. I left it this way so he can do what he wants with it. Thank you for the comment.
Dick, what can I say. You're the chainsaw guy I wish I could grow up to be. Yes, it's a bit of a plug, since Bear builds houses....he might need some carvings.

| | Re: tree for Bear Great job Thor! I've always been fascinated by trees. I just LOVE the patterns and shapes their branches make, and the more full and gnarled the better. Very neat idea for a carving. I've been thinking about trying to design a surround for our porch room over the windows that would be a forest scene kinda like a stencil but carved, that would go all the way around the room. But it'd be a big job to carve I suppose. Seeing what Mark Yundt does is giving me ideas. This just added to it.

| | Re: tree for Bear Another nice chunk of wood and another great carving. Nice to see some of your recent work and hope that you're enjoying your new house which I'm sure is also becoming quite a museum itself. |
