| | Top carver in the USA I haven't posted any carvings in a while but I can assure you I have been busy carving. Most of my stuff has been gift shop carvings and very repititious so I don't even bother with pics.
But here is a work in progress I have been working on this week that is ready to paint. It won't compare with Lynn's work but is coming along well for this old geezer. I will post a finished pic when Mary gets it painted. He will have on a pair of blue overalls and a light blue shirt and is holding a knife in his right hand and a carved top in his left hand. He is sitting on a wooden bucket in the middle of an outline of the United States.

| | Re: Top carver in the USA Doug ... So far .. He really looks like he's going to be a winner ..
Nice posture and facial features ... By the look of the piece .. you still got alot of detail to go on the clothing .. But it's gonna look great ..
Gonna be a 10.0 for sure when you get finished ...

| | Re: Top carver in the USA Looks good Doug. There is one thing that you might think about and that's shortening the arms. With the hands in place they extend out way too far. Look at where your own hands would set if you were in the same pose. I wouldn't go back quite that far as your piece is a caricature but I would bring them back pretty far from where you have them now. Just a suggestion. |

| | Re: Top carver in the USA Lynn, I have cut those arms back twice but I'll study them again at your suggestion and maybe whack 'em off some more. Stay tuned. Thanks, Doug |

| | Re: Top carver in the USA I can see Lynn's point but the Good Lord didn't make us all the same so extra long arms aren't that farfetched and it is a caricature. I'd leave this one well enough alone and think about shorter arms on my next project. It would be my luck to screw it up trying to fix it.... Isn't that like "if it ain't brioke don't fix it?" Anyway, I like him just that way he is and look forward to seeing him painted up.

| | Re: Top carver in the USA Doug,
great charter, maybe its the arm length but there is definitely something funny about the hands, you don't have 2 left hands like i made for my wing nut dude i carved for or of my brother in law ?
even though it was a spitting image of him and his be-fuddled backasswards ability's, he didn't find it a bit funny though ...HAW! |
