Here are my versions of Tom H's wizards. The one on the right has deeper knife cuts in the beard for the texture; the left one has U and V gouge cuts for the bead texture. I also did these in the round instead of as a triangle.

Claude, Really some nice wizards there. I like the eyes. Since I really do use this pattern for folks new to carving (or almost new) do you think you can describe/show how you do the eyes. For the new carver, I just have them leave a flat spot and then use the ol white then black paint on a toothpick method. Anyway I like those.

Yeah - I second TomH's request. Your eyes look fantastic Claude. AND I really like these guys in the round too. After I use up my triangle stock, I'll try some that way. I gotta get hip to painting. I haven't painted anything before other than walls in my house. So I'll have to pick up some sealer and paints soon.

Thanks Everyone for the kind comments. Just finished painting and was fairly happy with the result. I am going to try a few more to see just how much I can get out of that 3/4" triangle. Thanks Tom H for a fun project!
