| | Thursday night/Friday night We had family visiting over the holidays, so no time to do much of any carving until Thursday night. I had roughed out the sombrero last Saturday morning, then finally had a chance to finish it Thursday evening while my wife and 11 year old granddaughter were upstairs doing "girl things". It's still drying from a dunk in sanding sealer, but I'll paint it in a couple of more days. Haven't decided finally, but will probably put a cork on it and make it a bottlestopper for some decent tequila. He's 3 inches tall.
The second is an idea I had for my wife's cardinal collection...or maybe her snowman collection... anyway, it's a little cardinal all dressed for the bad weather we still haven't gotten - it was 71 here today in the metro Washington, DC, area. I'm planning to give him a green cap with white trim, and the scarf will be a green and white plaid with yellow stripe accents... or maybe a black cap and scarf...haven't decided yet. This one is also 3 inches tall.

| | Re: Thursday night/Friday night Claude, Very nice. The wood looks like pine. Am I right? Now carving that "stash" must have presented some real challenges. Be sure to post when painted...Tom H |

Be sure to post when painted...Tom H | It had a couple of problems, but a careful application of Elmer's Carpenters Glue and a wait of an hour or so seemed to solve most of the problems... And the wood is basswood - it's a bit dark at the moment, because the sanding sealing is still present and is darkening the wood. In another couple of days, it will have evaporated (out-gassed, for the technically oriented...) and will become lighter again.
