Great carvings Dave! I like the clock but REALLY like the otter!!! You've certainly captured the flood movements and mannerism of the otter... Can't believe you used Black Walnut though...that's some haaaard wood!!! Again, very, very nice job on both peices!!! Thanks for sharing them with us!

I guess I am too new to realize how hard the Walnut is. I strop my flextools frequently through the carving process , On the Janka scale it is 1010 which is the begining of very hard woods, as compared with Butternut 490 or basswood 410.
I am excited by the kind words that I am getting, just as a refresh the plan for the otter is one of the Wood carving projects on www.woodworkersinstitute.com and the clock is from www.mychipcarving.com . I am still learning and am excited to finish a piece even if it is from a pattern of someone else. Learning by copying, like we did in school to learn our ABC's.
