Default There's money in Fire Wood...

...Literally! At least when it's a purse...lol
This is my new idea. It was so much fun to make! Tan Oak with leather hinges and strap with Manzanita acorns. Fun Fun! I plan on carving the inside lid with leaves and swirls. I was going to carve the outside, but I think I like it to look like a log. The inside cavity has a leaf carved in the bottom. Batteries died before I could photo it. People at the post office sure liked it! I can't help but smile while I am wearing it. It will be a fun project to do with some kids I was thinking. Quartered the log, drilled out the fat part and hinged it with some old furniture tacks. Simple, bit time consuming. Trying to hold the small brads with my man fingers was pretty tricky. Ayway, was thinking about woodworking with kids and the recent threads about that. I think girls especially would like to make one. This is the first, and as such will most likely smooth out as I make more, but I was so excited I wanted to share!

that's a really cool idea! Kind of like books that have a secret compartment in them. it's early so i don't know if i'm saying it right. I'm also whooped from splitting almost a cord of firewood with the log splitter yesterday. I like it!

Hi Keoma,

You are a truly talented artist. I am constantly surprised by you creations, one to the next. The saying says to let your imagination run wild. Yours is obviously a herd of wild horses in full gallop. Mine is a snail in a foot race.

Great project. The girls will love making one of their own.

Thank you! I am working a new one this morning. I think instead of carving on this one, I will just let it be what it is and work on the next.
A new design I think will be even simpler and easier as well. Since it's just a log I don't want to detract from the simple beauty that it is with any gee gaw's. I have my nieces coming over to make one this weekend. I can't wait to see where their minds take it!
very few power tools involved so I think it will be great fun without so much stress .
Sharon...as I stack firewood...allll weeeekend...I have 2 piles...one for the porch and one for the shop. This is the most beautiful wood it's ever been my pleasure to burn? Perfectly dried. I could not help but take some for me

Thanx soggy! lol...termites. I was making sure I had NO BUG HOLES in the works while cutting this guy! I would pick up my bag one day and find little trails of sawdust...noooooooo lol...about the purse snatchers...they were a thought...I started laughing while thinking of them actually...ever see those videos of little old ladies whomping a man with their hand bags? lol...just imagine an whoopin with this purse! Timbeeeeer! hyuck hyuck hyuck
Ron I bet we can light a fire under that snails butt!

I like it!!!

A little trick for dealing with those tacks...

Thread a loop of string through a section of a drinking stray. Cinch the loop of string tight on the shaft of the tack. It will clamp the tack tightly against the straw. Pound the tack in three-quarters of the way, and pull backwards on the straw to pull the ends of the string out. Then pound the tack the rest of the way in.

Very cool idea Keoma. I am with RonT - my imagination is an amoeba. i.e. - I absorb everyone elses ideas cause I never seem to come up with any of my own. :-)

BobD - that's a great little trick. Thanks!
