| | There was a face in there Here is the latest on the Indian Mask (Carried over from "Attempting an Indian mask" & Update on Indian mask" threads)
Once I got the face roughed in with hand tools I did some sanding and further shaping with a couple diamond cutters and white texturing stones.
I originally wanted to do this with only hand tools…but...
I felt like I hand more control with the micro-motor, you know how it goes... use what you know.
Now I’ll switch back to the gouges for the remainder…I think
I’m pretty happy with the way the face has turned out for the most part but I do like his left eye better then the right and I would like to get more depth next time. He is still kind of flat from the side but I’m gaining on it compared to the first attempt on the Mountain man mask. |

| | Re: There was a face in there Nice work. Really like the eyes. I note that the right eye seems to wander just off center compared to the left. Personally, I really like that as it gets away from everything being perfectly matched. |

| | Re: There was a face in there Tony, excellant job! There's nothing to not like about this carving. The cheeks, chin, eyes, and the weathered marks on his face are just fine. This fella is going to look awesome when he is finished.

| | Re: There was a face in there Nice carving so far. It does look like his right eye is a little closer to the nose than the left.
Maybe it is just the light and shadows in the pic.
All in all, it's still a nice pioece of work. |

Getting the eyes to balance is one of the hardest parts of a realistic carving. It reminds me of my first carving of this size.Regrettably it was stolen during an exhibit. Dennis |
