Default Sweet Potatoes and on to next step

I have carved several sweet potato kazoos. The other day one of the supermarket ads had Yucca roots for 99c/lb. I got some today and made one.
It carved similar to sweet potatoes, but I ran into a hole going part way lengthwise through the root. Sort of messed up the face a bit. I'll have to wait till it dries to see how bad it ends up.

The root has a rough brown peel in several layers with a pinkish color right under it. All the roots don't seem to have the pink. Underneath, the root is white. I'm waiting to see what color it turns when it dries.
The root has a waxy coating on the outside. I suspect this is a coating put on to help preserve them.

Here are pictures of my first yucca root kazoo.

Pictures Yucca kazoo 01

As you can see, it didn't shrink much.

When dry the yucca is a little fragile, especially where the hollowing out for the resonating chamber has made the walls thinner. Holding too tightly or pressing causes them to break. but I have most of the pieces. I'll have to figure out what to glue it back together with that won't interfere with a finish.
