Default Stump Carving

Hi all,
I started this here so I'm going to finish it here too. This is one big head, from the top of his hair to the tip of his beard is 48" and approx 36" wide, majority of the work is chainsaw with mallet tools for the face & eyes. I can tell you one thing, those "real" chainsaw carvers are due a bunch of respect, its tough going after the rough-out. So far all I've put on him is danish oil, been raining quite a bit lately so I'll have to wait for summer to seal it up. Hope you like him and thanks for looking.
Dan

Dan, he turned out beautifully. His expression is so "of the earth" so to speak..

Well done, Dan. I notice that this appears tobe in your garden, right? But can you immagine someone stumbling across this out in the woods on a foggy day?

hehehe

That is a true work of art and a keeper. Is there a good way of perserving a stump now that it has the carving. I am interested as there are several stumps here that could be used rather than wasted. Amazing Dan, good work. Al

Hi Fred,
Thanks for the kind words. You are absolutely right about not being easy, as I've already said, the roughing out part was fun but thats just the beginning, the rest takes its toll on your entire body.

Hi Christina,
I'm glad you like him and also like the way you put it "of the earth". We've been trying to think of a name for him, my wife thinks he looks religious, I think he looks SCARED TO DEATH, probably because thats how I felt doing my first chainsaw carving. Now I'm thinking "of the earth", maybe I'll come up with something, thanks for the nice words.

Hi Al,
Yep, he's right at the edge of the summer flower garden. I'll bet ya during one of our garden tours this summer there will be more than one person startled by him. The way my path winds he's hidden by an evergreen until you come around the corner and everyone will be looking at the flowers until all of a sudden.............there's BIG HEAD, it'll be fun to watch. Thanks Al, always appreciate hearing from you.
Dan
