Default Street Scene

Hi all,
This will be my first attempt at a work in progress post, so if I get it wrong please forgive me ;O) The scene I am going to carve is a street scene. As I progress it will become apparant just what I am attempting. The majority of the project will be carved from a 4" x 6" x 12" block of basswood (First picture). I have cut a piece of red oak for the base (Pic 2), A basswood sidewalk (Pic 3), A street lamp base plate (Pic 4), and a street lamp base (Pic 5) which is almost finished. I am currently working on roughing out the street lamp post and lamp and in my next post I will have the street lamp assembled and the pieces set in place so you can begin to see the layout of the scene itself. I know this is kind of a slow start (almost comatose) but I'm a slow carver ;O). If you wish to follow along, I'll answer any questions you may have along the way so don't be afraid to ask.
Hope you enjoy.
Jim OH

Installment II - First picture is of the completed Street lamp base. Second picture is of the completed street lamp mounted on a sidewalk. Third picture is of cracks in the sidewalk radiating from the corner of the lamp base plate. I have added bolt heads to each corner of the base plate but haven't photographed them yet.
Fourth picture is a close up of street lamp globe showing splines in the cast lamp post and the ornamentation around the globe holder. Picture 5 is a front view of the cutout of the figure that will be in the scene which I am currently working on. Will have face pictures next post as that is my starting point on all figures I do. So far so good, I think ;O). I do want to texture the sidewalk surface and run the oak base thru a router yet. Hope ya enjoy the progress and in the meantime I'll get back to work.
