I am very excited and happy to say that I now have my first set of carving tools And my first gouge...in my thumb But it's all good! I am just so thrilled! I stayed up at the kitchen table gouging and slicing after the fam went to bed. Joy? Rapture? Yes-both! I decided to practice on a piece of Cherry that was just sitting there by my potato's. Stones are a love of mine, so I practiced a coloumn, and I wanted to try to make a spoon bowl, so I ended up with both...I think it will be cool when I am am done. I will take it to the bandsaw this morning and then finish detailing the coloumn all the way around and shape the back of the bowl. I am so excited. I can say for sure that I will not get anything done today.

Looking goood! Congrats on your tools! You're in the zone now.Did it start out as a big chuck of wood(like the stump of a cherry tree) or was it a smaller limb? The reason I ask, is because I have limbs of of apple( cut recently) 1 1/2" to 3" thick.I've sealed the ends with wax and am hoping they don't split to heck so I can make some spoons out of them. I also am going to seal the ends of pieces of the trunk. The limbs are old and twisted and would make some really cool spoons and ladles. Anyway glad you are having so much fun!

Hi Sharon! thanx ![]() The piece was a board I had some Cherry (had) and apple. A tip on the Apple. ROUGH CUT what you want now. I sealed the ends of my "branch" and let her dry for 2 years. Now she is so hard My Dinosaur tablesaw has a hard time cutting her. HARD HARD HARD. I wish I had cut my "green" spoon blanks while she was still semi green. My Cherry Log lasted 2 years before she finally cracked at the ends. But the good thing is free form spoons work really well around cracks Good luck! thanx again!

Hi Keoma, I'm a little confused. How have you managed to carve all of your past projects that I've seen here without carving tools? What kind of tools did you finally get? It looks like we're going to be in for a real treat now that you're fully tooled.

Ron I forgot! They are an awesome set of palm tools from our Very own kind hearted Wood Wittler We have ourselves an awesome trade in the works A few Dastra, some ramelson and a coupla others...i can't remember the names! I am just so excited with them! I don't know if he did it for me, or for himself, but they are all woodburned with the style and size right on the handle. Now I know what I am looking for when I look for tools! I can use these as a reference.
