| | Starting a new project You know starting a new project for me has really gotten to be a job in it's own right. First to find something that will make me streach for a new level and something that improves in both content and direction. But I think I have found one. Doing portrait work can really become a unique job in it's developement. First you want it to be of something you want, then something that the family would be proud of and then you have to deal with so many different people just to get the permisson to use the photo.
But I am now working on the art layout for the next carving. If it comes out half as good as I can see it , it will be the best I have done so far and also it will really be a good carving. Yes it will be another relief portrait.
I received permission to use the portrait about 10 mins ago. I had to get permission from a gentleman in England.
Amazing the people that we can contact today to do something we love.

| | Re: Starting a new project The cherry is pretty much like I expected it to be, but I haven't had enough time to really get into it much yet. It will take a different stategy to get a smooth look and the lines I want. You were right about it kind of chipping off when you go at it wrong.
A cherry carving will simply take me a lot longer to complete, and hopefully, it will be worth it for the beautiful finish I expect to get from the color and grain. That is a long way off from here...
Thanks again for it. I feel very spoiled.

Knowing Ash, maybe it would be better if he did have permission to do a self portrait!!!
I have seen what the next portrait is going to be. Its far from the looks of Ash.
This ones gonna kick his butt. But Im sure he will do it and do it well.
Gary,
Here is the poem I was telling you about that I want do do this scene and carve the poem into the relief. Havent done any relief carving in a couple of years but it will be next one.
This one will probably kick my butt, I have it pictured in my head but I need to get it into a sketch. Maybe after the Santa rush is over this year I will start on it. http://www.all-creatures.org/poetry/remorse.html

Gez Goody. I just read the poem and that torn up feeling is in my heart I have geese and know how devoted they are to each other and how loving and devoted (yes, devoted) they are with me, just the thought of what the poeem is saying gets to me. I am sure most will think I'm crazy now for sure, but geese as truly intelligent, GENTLE, and loyal pets. Okay, okay. It's late and I am a goose mush

| | Re: Starting a new project Goody,
You need to do this carving. And Yes I agree I can see that picture as clear as you described it to me. It would indeed be an increadble carving.
I know that relief carvings are usally not considered as being as difficult as an in the round, but I am quickly finding out that the can often be much harder to do. A caving like that Goody depending on how much you want to give it would be amazing. The detail of all that could be added , and where you are you could eaisly go to an area of shore along the bay, and photo the background that you would want. Yep, I want to see that one done.
And for the sisters , I have to say , yes it is an agressive step , but it will either be good , or bad , there will be no room in between, thanks for the vote of confidence .

| | Re: Starting a new project Well ,
I have the recess planed out now and should have the drawing done today. I should buy a router but they are so noisey .
here is the portrait and the progress pic. It is agressive for me but I think it will be a really nice piece.
