| | Starting a New Project! Probably one of the most vexing problems faced by any carver is trying to decide on what to do next once the previous project is completed. I was at that point yesterday but this morning the light went on and now, once again I'm on a 'mission'!
An inspiration can come at any time but this one showed up in an especially amusing way. I was brushing my teeth, watching my face in the mirror, marveling at how my good looks seem to holding their own against the onslaught of drooping skin. While moving the brush through that big open space on the lower left side the brush pushed out my cheek. The light went on!!
"A little pinch between the cheek and gum."
How about a cowboy leaning against a fence or wall, can of Skoal or package of Red Man in one hand, a big pinch in the other, and one cheek that looks like he's hiding his bowling ball in there!! The title would be "Just a Little Pinch!" Nice Scene, lots of implied action and most importantly, a challenge to get all the details right! It could be taken even further by including a horse, maybe hanging his head out of the barn door with a big wad stuffed in his cheek too. That would be a 'classic' piece.
So that's the new project. I'll keep you posted as it develops further.

| | Re: Starting a New Project! I did a baseball pitcher once with a big chaw of tobacco. I had a large mustache on him and when you have someone with a large mustache and a chaw it skews the face even more dramatically because the mustache emphasizes the distortion. If the chaw is big enough it also causes the eye to apeear to squint. Because of the stretching of the skin the area also gets whiter than the surrounding area which even highlights it more. Lots of fun!! Good luck.

| | Re: Starting a New Project! Sounds like a great project. I'm sure something like this would take me 6 weeks to complete. You will probably have it done by this Friday. I'm amazed at how fast you seem to complete a carving. Just can't wait to see the final results.....Myron |

| | Re: Starting a New Project! Lynn,
Sounds like a real winner to me, don't forget, his rear pocket should show some wear from the can inside it all the time, seems like it wears a circle into the jeans. Good luck, looking forward to the upcoming pictures. Bill | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
