Default Starting high relief

Here are some pix's of the high relief project from Chris Pye's "Relief Carving In Wood". This time I'm using basswood. It is like butter compared to the maple I used on the low relief project.

Default Re: Starting high relief

I'm getting ready to carve the detail in the fins and I want to try something different than the basic fluting in the book. I'm thinking of using a 1mm or 4mm V-tool to make some fine fins. Any suggestions on how to make the fins look? Should I use a veiner instead of the V-tool?

Thanks,
Dundee
