Very nicely done. Meipo! You are right, that does not look like basswood. Grain-wise it looks like it could be butternut, but seems a bit light colored for that. And the few pieces of butternut I've carved have not been hard. Looks more like ash to me, but that's just a guess.....hard to tell from a photo.

Nope, just looked again and it ain't ash.

Meipo, What a great carving project, love the whole look & feel of it. fantastic job on the scroll work. Perfect gift for any music lover, I will remember this one. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing the final pic, Bill
