I experimented on celtic love spoons at my seniors carving group and enjoyed the learning experience of making the wooden handle appear to look like rope weaving back and forth. I have tried a few different ones and cut out blanks for future project. I was looking around the message board a few weeks ago and saw some nice posts on spoon carvings and preparation of some wood and branches that can be used for nice grain follow through. Big problem now....I cannot find the post with the link to.... a Swiss or Sweedish carver that shows the way to prepare branches for carving. What I am trying to say is he shows that you can use natural hard bends or natural change in direction of the branches due to fruit weight or sucker branches causing change in direction of the branch and how to cut those branches, how to cure/dry them for best grain follow through. Has any one seen this post and and can you remember how to get back there? I have attached some photos of my carving and the first one is a tasting/mixing spoon, 3 centre ones are of minds eye and the last is my first Celtic love spoon Thanks for any help in this matter. Gary

Can't say I know exactly the link you are referring to. However, I remember reading something about the at Pinewood Forge Scandinavian Knives and some related links you can find at their site. They do cover exactly the kind of questions you raised. Oh, there are pictures of so many lovely spoons to drool over. Put on a bib before you start . . . meipo |
