Gary I agree that is your best spirit face to date. Great expression and great flow to the piece.

Hello All! Thanks for the comments, most I ever got on a carving here!

Mike: I used Danish oil on the carving, I was looking for something to use on my driftwood peices that would not darken them as much as the Boiled linseed oil I have been using. I like it!

Patrick & Mark: I don't really know what kind of wood it is, the grain kinda reminds me of oak, but it is very hard, and it has a golden color as I carved deeper. Some one mentioned Osage Orange, but I have never messed with it so I don't know for sure. But I wish I have some more of it!
Also some one asked for a close up of the face so I am posting it to my Galley if you would like to look at it, just click on my gallery link .
Thanks again!
GaryMc

Boy, if it's Osage Orange it must be hard wood. Had an aquaintance that turns Hedge( old fence posts) and tells me he gets sparks off it. I asked if he thought maybe the wood was dirty with something other than wood and he said he didn't think so. Can't imagine carving it.

Gary, beautiful work and I love the direction of the beard and hair. The finish on the wood is really nice (very rich looking). A+ Work

In my previous post I failed to tell you the carving looks really professional. You've inspired me to get started on a bark carving of my own.
