Bob: Ahoy there mate! While I have always loved being aboard your ship, It's also GREAT to see you step off the plank (even if for only a moment) and onto dry land... oops, I meant the wet ice and home of the great polar bears!

I'm always excited when you're working on a new stick and, as usual, it's looking good. From the pictures it looks fine to me eventhough it's in need of some dentures at this stage. Seriously, I think you're onto something and a polar bear on a stick is something that I don't believe that I've ever seen so I'm anxious to seeing you "Get R done"!!

This reminds me of an episode of Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom" that was shown on the Discovery Channel the last two weekends about the polar bears on Canada's Wrangel Island. Great show!

And please don't mention the firewood thing again. That causes me some kinda depression! Thanks for putting this up on the board and look forward to the progress!

I dropped into my young friends stone carving studio today, and brought along my Polar Bear. He gave me a real quality critique and a book that he finds useful when carving a Great Bear. He's just carved three, or is working on the third.......now he can carve Polar Bears!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I had brought along my camera, I know you'd enjoy his work. His stuff is on a dealers web site, and when I get the address I'll post it. Just spent two hours studying his book and power carving the lessons learned. Subtle changes, but spot on instructions. Will post again when have a bit more to see/show .

Step 2 done.....maybe 3 and 4...who can tell! Final shaping, some light burning and shape and install teeth. The teeth were fun......still looking for one I was working on. Hard to grip, touched with the burr and ......ping!!!!!! Not sure about the burning, and if to paint or not, leaning towards painting. Suggestions?

Bob

Now, Bob that is some serious bear! Were the teeth hard to get in there? I like the unique idea of using real teeth. Good carving. I would follow through with painting it. A polar bear needs to be white.
