Default Some Completed-Some Headed To The Paint Shop

I haven't posted much since I got on the forum. Been kind'a slow getting started. Finally got some GOOD basswood from Heinecke and the suggestion of using poplar by Susieq really got me started. Also the fact that Momma now lets me carve inside and watch TV from my chair makes it a lot more convenient. I've attached some of the small figures I've been working on. A lot of Santas to give to the kids and grandkids for Christmas. Most are in the 3 inch tall range and in the Gene Messer flat plane style. One Elf that I've started from Mark Gargac's mini turtorial. I apologize for the quality of the shots but I took them late this afternoon with out much bright light outside. Comments and suggestions always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Chuck

Nice set of carvings, Chuck! I especially like the third photo - these are great!

Critique: might be better if painted...Smile

Hey you're getting the "Gene" style down. I have much more trouble doing a face like that. Your doing very well. I love the santas! Keep'em coming!

Thanks All for your comments. I hope to have all of them fine tuned shortly and get them painted. Will post photos as I go along. Carl, you can find the tutorial by going to the bottom of this page where the Forum Jump listing is. Scroll down to the Wood Carving heading and then you will see Wood Carving Tutorials, select it and then go to the second page. Scroll down that page to almost the bottom and you'll find it - "Elf Ornament (mini tutorial) by Mark Gargac.

It looks like your kids and grandkids are going to be very proud of the "ole man". I especially like the Santas.
