Some chip carving Hi, while waiting for my arm to mend, I picked up chip carving. I use different muscles and movements so it didn't irritate the elbow as much as other kinds of carving tend to. Here's what I have so far. The edelweiss is from Wayne Barton's book Chip Carving.
The leaves on the left are my own idea: I looked up some photos and decided to try that. I noticed that it, in fact, spoils the picture a bit (since the flower should be the uncontested centerpiece). Therefore I carved the right side leaves the way Barton suggests.
My respect to those who do a lot of chip carving: it requires the patience and strength of a boa constrictor. Even a small slip can spoil the job beyond remedy.
