Default Small characters

I have been trying to carve really small this week after seeing a miniature character at carving club that impressed me. Today I took it down another step and these guys are the result. i think I have reached the lower limits of what I can do at this point, and I can see that I really need a finer brush for painting at this level, liiks like I used a roller on these fellows.

they started as a one inch by 4/10ths block of basswood..actually I don't think you can call a piece that size a block...they started from a splinter of basswood.

I enjoyed the challange of these guys, but sure do need to practice some more to get cleaner cuts and planes in this scale. Hope you enjoy them.

Sam...the only tools I used on these little guys (actually on nearly all my little guys up to 4 inches) are my two Butz knives from Woodcraft and a 1mm 45 degree V-tool by Flexicut. I use the Jack Price method of carving little guys, with a few changes in the steps to suit my idea of how they should be done.

What a challenge. Good to see you're more than able to handle them. Very nicely done.
