| | Re: sign in progress Another gorgeous piece Thor. I enjoy browsing your web page. You must carve 20 hours a day.
Can't advise you on finishes as I'm color stupido...er... blind

| | Re: sign in progress Thanks Wade and Elwood. I appreciate all comments. This is such a solitary work, and with no feedback, you don't know what you're accomplishing sometimes. I carve everyday and have 4 more pieces going right now.
I don't know which I prefer, but it's too late now....I've painted it.
This is the progress I've made.
I've used oil paints thinned with turpentine and boiled linseed oil after I coated the whole thing with BLO.
The black paint on the heraldic device in the corner is home made paint from holding a plate over a candle flame and mixing the soot with BLO. It worked better than I thought it would.
I was out of black, and so this was a time saving help.
I'm still darkening the green parts, and working on the peacock. It actually helps me to see a photo of it; kind of a new perspective.
I do think it is showing up a lot more with the painted parts, and is still undeniably carved.

| | Re: sign in progress OK, last time.
This is the sign with all of the painting done, and I put the strands of beads and tokens on it this morning.
It's hard to photograph, and I sacrified clarity on the greenman's face to show the beads.
Some of the metals hanging on the strands are awards, tokens of appreciation, and membership into specific orders that I have been given. In other words, they all have meaning at Medieval reenactment events. Some of them are heavy, so displaying them this way seems like a good idea rather than wearing them around my neck.
I painted and stained the woodworking tools so they show up now, and made all of the colors richer by applying more layers of glazes with oil paint.
I think I started work on this nearly a year ago, so it is such a relief to finally have it finished.
