Note to Bob D.: At some point, WCI needs to look at Bob and his ships in a future article, the readers would be appreciative. |

| | Re: Ships deck ...WIP Bob, I knew your ships were well done but that is truly amazing to see with the toothpick for scale. And I anxiously wait till you get to the lessons on "rigging" My fther-in law gave us a schooner model that is in storage till the spring . Maybe by then I'll be able to talk intelligently to him about it (or at least seem to understand what he is talking about) The cathead, the ships cat, and the cat-of-ninetails are 3 different things right? Only one is a real animal, right? ;} Don

| | Re: Ships deck ...WIP Bob, your work is so excellent words like excellent don't seem enough. You set the bar high and I admire your work so much! Susan great idea of using the tooth pick to set the scale. Which even more so shows Bobs wonderful abilities and fine hand at his craft.

| | Re: Ships deck ...WIP You folks are all very kind, thank you for your encouragement.
Wade....I have been working away on it since the beginning of the summer, as for number of hours.....too many to count. I never even consider the time in terms of hours, just months or usually years.
Susan...tell Michael I do use a headband magnifiers, but only for the small stuff, and I haven't started that yet!!!
Bob D.... a project this long takes a real commitment and a certain amount of patience.....but it is more about perserverance. Not everyone's cup of tea!
Ron....never thought about a video before, would be quite a chore, and a long complicated subject. I suppose, you never know.
Again, thank you all for your comments.

| | Re: Ships deck ...WIP Bob,
Truly amazing craftsmanship. The attention to detail is wonderful, and I can only imagine having the ability to carry it out to completion.
One question, How do you hold items that small and have room to carve the details without carving your fingers? I'd have to have a standing appointment with the Dr. just to get tetanus shots. AMAZING WORK!!!
Keep on sailin' n carvin'.

| | Re: Ships deck ...WIP Garon...that's a really good question. Depending on the piece, I often carve the part at the end of a stick and when it's done, just cut it off the end of the stick. That's a simplfied version, but the basics are the same. Prepare the stick, or stock, to the dimensions you need, and then shape the piece using the stick as a handle. I must admit, I have DNA in just about every model that I have ever built, but I clot well and haven't been troubled by infection!!!
I thank you for the compliments lads, I appreciate the encouragement.
