Nice carving ,does that count?,What the heck I say if you can take a rough out and change a few things around to make it your own, why not! thats what it"s all about anyway is trying different things and having fun doing it.

Love the details in the carving and the painting. The shoes are wonderful.

Mark Gargac, Thank's
I'm really having fun carving but my hands are badly deformed from RA so the roughout's allow me to participate.

Carolina Carver, Thank you Mark A.
I would like to know how you can start with a blank sheet of paper one day and have a carving ready for paint the next day like you did with the Viking and now your latest Santa, that really blows my mind.

Thor, I took my shoe off and set it on the desk while carving the Santa and I thought.....man!....that leather tie is just what I need for the tool kit and by the time I was done cutting (to get a piece that would work) there was nothing left but the knot, mine now look just like his....hehe

wood whittler, Thank you Bart,
Most of the roughout's are so restrictive that you have no choice but to carve a copy of the original with only a change to the face and paint.

Marci MN,
He must be the Master Carver and He's off to the workshop to start on Christmas 2006...grin

Colin Partridge,
I did have to add a little quik wood to get the length on the beard and move the thumb to hold the tool kit but the rest of it was in the roughout.
My Razertip burner (from Nedra) came Saturday and last night I started my first burning project so I'm only a few weeks behind you with the burning, I'm doing another Canvasback duck but it's going to be hard to cover that up with paint because it looks so nice just burned. Have you finished your burning project yet?

mwilleson, Thanks Mike
The detail painting is fun, I'm going to do a lot more of that. Your toothpick holder looks great and it gave me an idea for MY desk.

squbrigg, Thanks Bob,
The Marco Polo is really coming along great, it looks like it's almost ready for the sails.
