Could I have carved it better,,and should I? Should I ignore what the design calls for and add my own particular flourishes that might improve it,,or do what others feel would help it? Is it a good or bad carving? It's neither,,it is what it is supposed to be. Just sort of ho-hum,,,and that's only because of a direct comparison. On it's own,,in the right setting,,it will look just fine.
... | I understood. The workmanship on the architect's design is great - it's the design that's lacking, in my opinion. As Doris says - it doesn't lead the eye around (boring). I think you did the correct (right) thing by carving the design as given to you; then you carved (spent your valuable time) on an alternate design that can show the architect a better (my opinion) design. And I have to disagree with your last statement: I think the architect's design will still be boring, even in the right setting...a back-of-the-envelope sketch is still a back-of-the-envelope sketch, even if was hanging in the Louvre...
But, that's only my opinion...

| | Re: samples are done Ahhh,,,Claude,,,you're a man after my own heart! LOL...LOL. I knew you understood,,but in my own clumsy way I was trying to be gracious. You're a very intuitive man,,insightful,,and wonderful! And I too share your feelings about the piece. But who knows,,maybe that's what he really wants to see. I'll find out shortly ,I hope, and let you know.
Thanks! |

| | Re: samples are done Very nice work, Mark. Your design really flows yet is vigorous. Lot's of interest and very well executed. I know the feeling about continuing to mess with it, but it really won't get much better than it is now. I nitpick them to death, way past the point of diminishing return. Thanks for showing us how to do such a great job so quickly. Mike |

| | Re: samples are done Mark ,
I look at the two designs, and I go back to working with the right side of the brain.
The designs are both good , but for the application , your will work better. You made yours opened , flowing and living, by using the frame effect it makes it look larger and more open , it should increase the effect of making the bed look larger.
The first design , is closing, tight , confined restricted. I think in the setting of wanting something to appear smaller , or safer it would be a very good pattern. It could eaisly be used in combination in a room to highlight a single piece of furiture. It could be used to shrink a dresser to make it look smaller, then the true size. The combination of the designs could eaisly do that.
