Default Robe Woman WIP

Title: Robe Woman
Medium: Aspen
Size: 11" Tall 4" Across robe at widest point

Hi All, I'd like to share my 'Robe Woman' she is in the early stages with lots yet to do. I'm going to wood burn her hair and most likely leave the rest of the figure natural. I don't know yet if I want to carve the facial features or just outline them. I do think the tourquoise oval stone that is part of the necklace I'll paint. I'm including my concept drawing so you can see my plan.
As always I appreciate your thoughts and comments for improvement.
Kathy
Happy 4th of July to everyone.

Going to be a good one. If I was to do the carved features I would first practice on scrap wood. But then that's me, my female faces kinda look like the creature feature.....Anyway you do it it'll be a good . Tom H

Thank you, Kenny, Tom H and Gene:
I really appreciate you looking and taking the time to comment--much appreciated. I'll post another image when I get further along with the carving.

I like your design. What kind of wood are you using? It appears to have some dark grain.

Hi Joy, Thank you, and I'm using aspen from Colorado a friend brought back for me last year. This is one of the smaller pieces and I thought it would make a nice figure carving. It does have some dark grain which I think will enhance the robe especially. This one will be the proto type for some larger ones for my backyard.

Kathy, looks like your off to a great start. I'm looking forward to seeing her all finished.

I picked up some aspen in Northern New Mexico while on vacation hoping to carve something from it. Is aspen hard to carve? So far, I've only carved on basswood.

Kathy, I just visited your home pages. I love your paintings. They are so fresh and airy. And Grandpa's lantern is great.

I look forward to seeing your doll "come to life".

Nice! I can offer one little suggestion even though I've become a little "gun shy" about offering opinions or comments anymore. Anyway, if you havent worked the robe so much you might consider moving the point where the blanket is held together to the right or left just a bit to make the head off center just a bit. That always looks more interesting than lining it up right down the middle.

Whatever you do it should be a colorful piece and I look forward to seeing it finished.
