Return from Debbe Edwards session Mornin' folks, just returned from a great carving session with Debbe Edwards. The net she casts for students is getting larger. We had one carver show up from North Carolina. Debbe takes only 10 students in back-to-back sessions each fall. There is also a waiting list with current year participants having the first shot at next year.
This year, we moved from bears to cats and I find them much more difficult to carve. Sure are a lot of angles and curves on those cougar faces. This piece is deceptive. It looks simple, but, Debbe even took the leap of allowing power in a couple of spots that were particularly hard to reach and held great potential for breakage. I try to mentally put my carvings in a setting as I work on them. On these two, the reclining female has perked her ears in interest. The standing male has his partially laid back. Another male is out there and both are saying, "Who is this?"
Now, it is back to house building and very little carving for me. Target date for completion is about a month then maybe I can complete the pieces I am doing (rearing horse and barn owl shown elsewhere as WIP) and the moose antler I started last summer. |
