| | Reconstituted Ark For the last year or so Nancy G. has been sending up unused carving supplies for me to forward to either our carving club, new, unequiped carvers, or the Scouts. About a month ago, a package showed up with some more material for the club and a "pretty bad condition" ark project from Murkworks out in Oregon. Well, as I'm curerently in toy making mode for a year old grandaughter, I took the liberty of "nationalizing" this project for her. (hope you don't mind, Nancy) After some dissassembly, reassembly, contouring, sanding, woodburning staining, sealing and finishing, the Ark is finally done (except for the animals).
Also the project gave me some ideas into some of the construction techniques of these boat style toys. Hmmmmm.....maybe some other projects?
Here's what resulted. Thanks, Nancy, from me, our carving club and the good ole BSA!

| | Re: Reconstituted Ark If I had known that ark would ever look like THAT I would never have sent it .... I would have kept it. I'm sorry I sent it away so I'm asking you, Al, to send it back OK? Isn't it amazing what talented hands can do to something you have so little hope for? Wonderful !!!
(I answered this early yesterday evening -- I wonder where it went??) |

| | Re: Reconstituted Ark That is a good looking vessel, real ship shape and all squared off for a flood. Nice finish on it too, so don't let the salt build up on if from sea spray. Hope your granddaughter gets plenty of sea miles out of that one! Better start on a crew for it soon too! Wouldn't be long before she's big enough to play with it.

| | Re: Reconstituted Ark Thanks for the kind words, folks! This little ship, now has a crew of Noah and his wife, but somehow they came out looking a little like an Amish couple. The "critter brigade" is also being worked on, but will not be carved. This came with a baggie sandwich bag full of those little wooden "block animals" and as this will wind up as a toy for a toddler in a short time, I didn't want to make more breakable animals. So, they will just be painted.
Nancy, let me check and see if I can find the receipt with the return policy.....gimme a few years, OK? This will definitely get back as far as St. Louis, though.
