Default Recent Carvings

Greetings to all, hope you are well and happy, making lots of chips and creating all kinds of wonderful carvings.

These are what I have carved in the last two weeks. I still love the little guys, but like to make all different sizes so they aren't so visually similar when displayed on a shelf. I am slowly improving, but have a long way to go. I need to learn to do hands so they can take them out of their pockets occasionally.

Thanks for any critisism and critique, I need to know what I can change to improve.

Your carving look good to me. I'm not good enough to give advice but in WCI issue #12 Lawrence Spinak did a nice article tittled sign up for carving a little guy. and he had a nice generic pattern that was easy to do with the hands out of the pocket. I also took the pattern from the book Carving Blockheads by Steve Prescott and shorten it to do little guys I think Mr. Spinak has a web site that has a short tutorial www.whittling.com. I hope this is of interest as I said your carving look good now but for me these others helped get the hands out of the pockets

Thanks for all the comments. I chose the name SlowMover because of my feet and legs, the hands work just fine.

I carve for at least 3-4 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, so its not hard to carve up a few little guys in 2 weeks, as they only take me an average of 5 -6 hours each, including painting time. Two months ago, when I first got Jack Price's book, my first few little guys took about 10 hours each. You know what they say about practice! (it's true)

I really enjoy carving, especially the little guys. When I first had to go home forever on disability a year and a half ago, I nearly lost my mind from boredom. I now have fun each day, and look forward to what lies ahead.

I read through Gene's new tutorial on the simple hillbilly, and carved a guy today with his hands out of his pockets, not to bad for the first one, was easier than I thought. Guess I was still having some negative thoughts and being afraid of the new and unknown...a habit I need to break. I need to touch the new guy up and detail his clothes tomorrow, then will paint him in a couple of days as I wait till I have two or three to paint before putting up the carving tools and getting out the painting stuff. Sre wish I had a shop, or even an extra room where I could leave everything out and set up. I'm doing ok in the recliner in the living room with a TV tray, but a real work place sure would be nice. I will attach a pic of the guy with hands when he is done.

thanks again for all the support of the group, hang in there and keep having a blessed life.
